Watch Guillermo Del Toro’s Awesome ‘Simpsons’ Opening

Photo: FOX.com

For the 24th ‘Treehouse of Horror’ special, ‘The Simpsons’ enlisted director Guillermo Del Toro to create the opening sequence. The 2-minute-45-seconds long opening features a number of nods to Del Toro’s work, and pays tribute to other masters of horror.

Throughout the sequence we see Edna Krabappel sitting in front of the school with Alfred Hitchcock, who is feeding birds. Chief Wiggum appears as a cyclops, like the ones made famous by the late visual effects creator Ray Harryhausen. Bart writes “All Work And No Play Makes Jack A Dull Boy,” from ‘The Shining’ a movie the show has parodied before, on the blackboard. The always creepy Stephen King appears behind him scribbling on the walls. I could go on, but I’ll let you figure them out for yourself!

Del Toro was initially offered a guest voice role, and a chance to do a quick couch gag, but ended up re-imagining the whole opening credits.

The Simpsons titles are so iconic and yet they’ve never been riffed in this vein. I really wanted to land the connections between the [show’s] set pieces and the titles and some of the most iconic horror movies, and intersperse them with some of my stuff in there for pure joy,” he says. I have to say, he did great job.

You can watch the ‘Treehouse of Horror’ episode on Sunday night at 8 p.m. on Fox.

‘The Simpsons’ Meet ‘Breaking Bad’ – Look Who’s On The Couch!

How crazy is THIS? Marge is making the latest rage in baking:  blue cupcakes with “Blue Meth” sprinkles…but wait. It gets better.

When tuning into “The Simpsons” Sunday (April 14), don’t be shocked to see the family missing from their usual spot on the couch. Instead, viewers will see Marge, Homer and the kids working in a new family business: “blue sky” cupcakes.

As Marge makes and sells the cupcakes at the church bake sale, Homer oversees the operation by sleeping on the couch and sneaking some batter for himself, while wearing a porkpie hat similar to “Breaking Bad’s” Walter White.
As the animated scene ends, the camera finds White (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) in their lab suits, sitting on the couch, drinking beer and watching “The Simpsons.” It’s a very fun video tribute to “Breaking Bad,” complete with the two leads from the show making cameo appearances as their characters, all set to “Crystal Blue Persuasion” byTommy James and the Shondells.
“The Simpsons” airs Sunday at 8 p.m.

It’s funny/disturbing that these “meth” cupcake how-to’s are all OVER Pinterest.  Seriously. Go look.
