The Dark Knight Rises has been the biggest movie of the Summer, and President Obama was among the many who enjoyed it. Surprisingly, his favorite character was Catwoman.
At a fundraising event held at Harvey Weinstein‘s Connecticut home, the Prez revealed that Anne Hathaway‘s performance as Selina Kyle was one of the best things about the movie. “I got a chance to see Batman, and she was the best thing in it. That’s just my personal opinion,” he said. He added that she was “spectacular.” Hathaway co-hosted the fundraiser, in attendance were Anna Wintour along with Aaron Sorkin and others for the $38,000 a plate dinner.
This is where we all speculate on whether Michelle has a Catwoman costume hidden around the White House somewhere.
Both actor Christian Bale and director Christopher Nolan (The Dark Night Rises) have issued separate statements regarding the appalling and tragic shooting massacre , which claimed 12 lives and left dozens more injured in Aurora, Colorado during the midnight screening July 20th.
“Words cannot express the horror that I feel. I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them.”
Christopher Nolan spoke for the entire cast and crew of the film:
“Speaking on behalf of the cast and crew ofThe Dark Knight Rises, I would like to express our profound sorrow at the senseless tragedy that has befallen the entire Aurora community,” says Nolan.
He continues, “I would not presume to know anything about the victims of the shooting but that they were there last night to watch a movie. I believe movies are one of the great American art forms and the shared experience of watching a story unfold on screen is an important and joyful pastime. The movie theatre is my home, and the idea that someone would violate that innocent and hopeful place in such an unbearably savage way is devastating to me.”
Nolan concludes, “Nothing any of us can say could ever adequately express our feelings for the innocent victims of this appalling crime, but our thoughts are with them and their families.”
It’s being reported too, that Warner Bros. Pictures has decided to cancel premieres for The Dark Knight Rises in both Mexico and Japan in light of the shooting in Colorado. They already canceled the Paris premiere, and announced yesterday that they would not report box office earnings out of respect for the victims.
“Out of respect for the victims and their families, Warner Bros. Pictures will not be reporting box office numbers for The Dark Knight Rises throughout the weekend. Box office numbers will be released on Monday,” a studio statement read.
Lord knows I love Pee-wee Herman…and if this awesomeness were in the real movie, I might be more excited for next week’s opening weekend of The Dark Knight. Watch it with me, won’t you?
