Another superhero movie? Why yes, and this time it’s a new Superman saving people, being angsty and falling in love with a generically pretty white girl. Maybe I’m not giving ‘Man of Steel’ enough credit, but as good as it looks, doesn’t it also seem a little run of the mill?
Replacing Brandon Routh (what happened to him?) as Superman is Henry Cavill, who you might know as the Duke of Suffolkfrom ‘The Tudors.’ Amy Adams is Lois Lane, and she already looks like a better Lois than Kate Bosworth. Russell Crowe is Kal-El’s father Jor-El, and an evil looking Michael Shannon is General Zod. The movie also stars Diane Lane, Kevin Costner and Laurence Fishburne, so the cast is pretty solid and it was produced by Christopher Nolan, it might actually be good.
‘Man of Steel’ hist theaters on June 14. What do you guys think of the new Superman?
Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have officially announced that Henry Cavill will be playing Clark Kent (oh, and Superman!) in the new Superman movie directed by 300 and Sucker Punch director, Zack Synder. Here’s what Snyder had to say about Cavill:
“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”
The movie is being written by by David S. Goyer and Christopher Nolan. The movie still doesn’t have a title but is scheduled to be released for a December 2012 release. Let’s hope we’re all still alive to see it. Most people might not be familiar with the 27 year old, who is best known for playing The Duke of Suffolk on “The Tudors“, so it’ll be interesting to see how the Brit pulls off the American superhero. Cavill recently wrapped production on “The Cold Light of Day” and stars in the upcoming “Immortals“, opening this fall.
