The results show was performance heavy. Judge Keith Urban performed his single “Long, Hot Summer” and former Idol and ‘Smash’ star Katherine McPhee joined OneRepublic for “If I Lose Myself.” Oddly enough, Ryan Seacrest introduced her as a “recording artist,” even though the only singing she’s been doing is on her show….maybe he didn’t mention it because it’s on another network. Moving on!
Colton Dixon also paid the show a visit, and gave Angie Miller props, and a hug, for performing his song “Never Gone” during the first week of the competition. Though Angie had one of worst solo performances on Wednesday night, she was safe along with Kree Harrison and Candice Glover. It’s safe to say at this point that we’ll be seeing one of these girl crowned the winner.
Also safe were Amber Holcomb and Janelle Arthur, which meant all 3 guys were in the bottom. I’m sure their group performance had nothing to do with that.
Burnell Taylor is also safe, leaving Devin Velez and Lazaro Arbos waiting for the final results. In a kind of shocking twist, Devin is going home.
I have to ask this again, who the hell keeps voting for Lazaro? Are these sympathy votes? He is bad, real bad but certainly not Michael Jackson BAD, ok!? Devin had his best performance on the show on Wednesday night and he deserved to stay. And he was so cute teaching those kids how to sing “Home.”
Ryan Seacrest announced on Twitter what we all figured was a ploy to get even more money, that Jennifer Lopez is also leaving American Idol, after yesterday’s news that Steven Tyler was leaving the judge’s table to tour with Aerosmith. I can understand Steven’s need to leave. JLo’s career was re-booted after being hired by the fine folks at FOX and American Idol, and I think she should’ve signed on for one more year, but that’s just me.
Rumors are swirling about who will fill the judges’ seats. Everyone from Adam Lambert to Miley Cyrus are being considered. Who would you like to see say the word “pitchy” over and over for weeks on end?
It’s being widely reported that JLo is in talks with the folks at FOX and American Idol as to whether or not she’s staying or leaving (what else does she have to do? People are paying to see Enrique Iglesias–not her as the opening act, forpitysake), but it looks like Steven Tyler is the one we should’ve been watching.
“After some long … hard … thoughts … I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress ‘American Idol’ before she boils my rabbit,” Tyler said in a statement on Thursday. “I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I’m back –- but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I’ve got two fists in the air and I’m kicking the door open with my band.
I have such an identity with this band. We’ve done a bunch of things. We certainly have been writing. I have a bunch of songs I’ve written for solo and/or Aerosmith,” Tyler said. “What you hear in the press about ‘American Idol’ getting in the way of the band just isn’t true. There’s no validity to it.”
First, let me say “UGH!!”in response to Tyler’s gross junior high “long…hard” double-entendre statement above. Seriously, dude? Gross. Secondly, I don’t care that he’s leaving. Do you?
