Lifetime‘s new movie ‘Liz & Dick’ premieres this weekend on the channel, and while Lindsey Lohan has been trying her best to promote it, the biopic is getting torn apart like a turkey wishbone by critics. The movie details the relationship between screen legends Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, played by Lohan and Grant Bowler. His portrayal of Burton has been getting decent reviews, but Lindsay’s performance as Taylor, who it seems she might think she is in real life, is getting panned.
Tim Goodman of The Hollywood Reporter calls Lohan’s performance “woeful from start to finish,” and says that her late 80’s appearance of Taylor looks like a “lost ‘Saturday Night Live’ skit.” Maybe they should have gotten Mike Meyers for these scenes. He adds,
“For a short film on two long lives, Liz & Dick truly drags. Luckily, you can’t take your eyes off of Lohan playing Taylor, which the producers clearly thought would work because they share similar backstories. Except for the part about Taylor being a gigantic movie star and Lohan not being one. Not even a star bright enough to transport you at least halfway to believing she’s Elizabeth Taylor.”
Linda Stasi of The New York Post was a bit more kind, “Lohan, in character as Taylor, is often so believable you might think you’re seeing the real thing, but then every once in a while she’ll backslide and deliver lines that sound DOA.”
Brian Lowry of Variety suggested a Drinking Game while watching the movie, “like taking a swig every time a doctor or associate delivers bad news.” He says the movie is “wobbly at times, but the movie ultimately stands on its own.”
So will you be watching ‘Liz & Dick‘ when it premieres Sunday night at 9 p.m.? It sounds like it could be a lot of fun…or just really bad.
