M.I.A. dropped a brand spanking new video for her latest single “Bring The Noize” yesterday, and I think it’s the perfect soundtrack for some recent news.

Last night Sen. Wendy Davis, D-Fort Worth spent 13 hours on her feet fighting the #SB5 bill that would shut down almost every abortion clinic in Texas if it had passed. During her epic filibuster, over 170,000 people tuned into watch her fight against the bill, with people online and in the rotunda of the Senate building cheering her on.

Davis was not alone of course, there was Sen. Leticia Van De Putte who challenged her male colleagues for trying to silence her and the other female representatives. At what point must a female senator raise her hand or her voice to be recognized over her male colleagues? she asked. This question, and the discussion that followed, helped to run out the clock after the Republicans decided that Davis wasn’t sticking to the topic.

So the #SB5 bill is dead, for now, and DOMA was deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court on Wednesday morning, but we still have a long way to go.   A part of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was declared unconstitutional, which means it’s going to be easier to enact voter suppression in some areas. This also means that Wendy Davis could lose her seat in the Senate because this ruling would effectively change the demographic composition of her district, making it harder for Black and Hispanic voters to for a sizable majority.

So keep pushing. Keep fighting. Keep voting. Keep paying paying attention and keep bringing the noise!
