Former (and current?) Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver front-man Scott Weiland has returned with a new autobiography, “Not Dead & Not For Sale“, chronicling his battles with drugs and his former bandmates.
Weiland also makes a shocking revelation in the book that he was raped as a young boy. While growing up in Ohio, he remembers a “big muscular guy, a high school senior… [who] rode the bus with me every day to school… invited me to his house. The dude raped me. It was quick, not pleasant. I was too scared to tell anyone. ‘Tell anyone,’ he warned, ‘and you’ll never have another friend in this school. I’ll ruin your **ckin’ reputation.’ Adds Weiland, “This is a memory I suppressed until only a few years ago when, in rehab, it came flooding back. Therapy will do that to you.”
He also talks about his weird friendship with Courtney Love, the two shared the same drug dealer. Although they never dated, Weiland says they “were rather close at the start“. While promoting the book, he revealed that he has recorded a number of cover songs planned to be released later this year. He performed a cover of The Lemonheads’ “Into Your Arms” on The Tonight Show a couple of nights ago, and covered Depeche Mode on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night.
Scott’s looking great, but he doesn’t sound as good as he used to. He says has been clean since 2002, and let’s hope he stays that way.
