It was reported late last year that singer Taylor Swift was up for the role of Éponine in the big screen version of Les Miserables, but someone came to their senses and went with a better choice. Broadway World is reporting that the coveted role is going to British stage actress Samantha Barks who played Éponine in the 2010 25th Anniversary production of Les Mis. She got the big news during a curtain call for Oliver! from the film’s producer Cameron Mackintosh.
“He told the cast and audience that he had a big announcement to make before flying to America, and then revealed that Barks would be taking the role of Éponine. It seems to have come as a surprise to Barks – audience members reported that ‘the look on her face was priceless,'” it was reported. Barks later tweeted that it was the “most incredible moment of my life,” and was also congratulated by her co-stars.
The 21-year-old will be joining Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried and Hugh Jackman in the production directed by Tom Hooper.
