‘Mockingbird Lane‘ was originally set as a reboot of ‘The Munsters‘ but was never picked up. Instead, NBC is airing the hour long pilot on Friday October 26, just in time for Halloween. The modern take on the 60s series sees a much younger version of Lily and Herman played by Portia de Rossi and Jerry O’Connell living with vampire Grandpa, Eddie Izzard, and their son Eddie, Mason Cook. I have to say, Charity Wakefield makes a convincing Marilyn Munster.
A big part of the original ‘Munsters‘ is that Herman and his family looked like monsters. Everyone is just too….good looking, even Grandpa. There’s almost no reason for them to have Marilyn, the “normal” one around. But the SFX don’t look too bad, and it seems like it might have had a dark sense of humor in the vein of ‘Pushing Daisies.’
Creator Bryan Fuller told TV Guide that he is proud of what viewers will get to see and that he hopes it does lead to the show getting picked up.
“My fantasy of the show getting out there is people say, “Wow, this is one of the best NBC pilots of the fall, and it’s great that it’s airing and everyone should take a peek at it.”
So will you be checking out ‘Mockingbird Lane’ and do you think it’ll be good enough for NBC to give it another chance?
