Best Dressed at Costume Institute’s Met Gala

You’d think at an event honoring the late Alexander McQueen stars would have bought out the big guns. This is the event to show off and go crazy. I guess some of them didn’t get the memo. But there were some standouts, here are a couple of the best dressed on the red carpet.

Gwen Stefani and her gorgeous husband Gavin Rossdale.

Pharrell Williams, looking daper in an Yves Saint Laurent suit.

Jennifer Lopez, again! Both her and husband Mark Anthony wore Gucci.

Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson

Amy Poehler looked great in a navy dress by J. Mendel

Sarah Jessica Parker was one of the few to actually wear Alexander McQueen. She arrived with Bravo’s Andy Cohen

Oprah arrived with and wore  Oscar de la Renta

Gisele Bundchen also wore Alexander McQueen. She should tell Tom to do something with his hair.

Model Jessica Stam wore a cute Tommy Hilfiger dress. Surprised Taylor Swift didn’t snatch this one up.

Ashley Olson looked much better than her sister Mary-Kate. Her date was Christian Louboutin, dressed as a bellhop.

Kanye West wore a suit by Tory Burch, his date for the event

Marc Jacobs, in a kilt!

And finally, I think the night belonged to these two women. Christina Ricci wowed in a Zac Posen gown. It was like Wednesday Addams all grown up.

Daphne Guinness, who was a close friend of Alexander McQueen, paid tribute to him by wearing one of his feathered creations.

Party envy, indeed!

The Met Gala 2011 Honoring Alexander McQueen – Savage Beauty

They (the collective  “THEY”) call the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute’s Gala “The Oscars of Fashion”  (I thought the Oscars were “The Oscars of Fashion”, but whatevs.)  This year’s Gala is honoring the late, and so very gifted, Alexander McQueen, with a tribute called Savage Beauty.

One of the many pieces of McQueen's work displayed at the Gala

via: WWD:

“Sarah Burton, McQueen’s creative director and his right-hand woman for 14 years, was clearly emotional at the event—and understandably so. Not only was the venue the site of McQueen’s first post-graduate show, but the handful of pieces on display, including his calf-hair horned jacket and a gilded feather jacket [above], reminded everyone why McQueen was such a national treasure. SamCam gave McQueen his due gravity introducing the event:

“We are so happy that one of America’s great institutions is supporting one of the U.K.’s most deeply talented designers, Alexander McQueen,” she said from the podium. Bolton, for his part, agreed wholeheartedly; McQueen, he said, was an “easy sell” for the theme, especially given the late designer’s tremendous body of work.”

Of course, we now know that Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen was the designer of the wedding dress of the century over the weekend .  Take a look at a few of the gorgeous gowns spotted on the Met Gala’s Red Carpet this evening…

Kate Hudson (Man, I'm sick of her pie-hole.)
Kristen Stewart. It's so hard being HER.
Taylor Swift
JLo in Gucci
The ever-icy Anna Wintour in Chanel

Janelle Monae looking FANTASTIC in Chanel.

Madonna looks quite regal; Taylor Swift is trying too hard, as is Jennifer Lopez–but she’s entitled.  Salma Hayek is absolutely a vision.  Love the fact that she wore a McQueen gown.    I really do love Janelle Monae’s Chanel ensemble.  It’s elegant, modern and true to her trade-mark look.

If I find anyone else who looks interesting, I’ll keep you updated.
