‘Today Show’ Host Ann Curry Being Forced Out — Is It Matt Lauer’s Fault?

Matt's inner voice: "I hate her like poison."

I’ve heard rumors about Matt Lauer disliking new-ish co-host, Ann Curry, who replaced Meredith Vieira last year.  Now, soon after Matt signed on to stay with The Today Show, all hell is breaking loose because the ratings are down and the Olympics are coming up.

The New York Times reports that Curry, who replaced Meredith Vieira as co-anchor on NBC’s morning show “Today” last year, is on her way out, with a decision coming as early as next week.

According to the Times, NBC executives are negotiating with Curry in an effort to find a different position for her, possibly as a foreign correspondent. The Times’ Brian Stelter writes that Curry, who is reluctant to give up the position that she assumed a mere year ago, has hired attorney Robert Barnett, who represented Christiane Amanpour during her exit from ABC News’ “This Week,” to represent her in the negotiations.

One source told the Times that the network is hoping to complete Curry’s departure by the Summer Olympics, which kick off in July, so the network — which is airing the Olympics — can move forward to the Games with a clean slate.

“They feel real pressure to get it done by the Olympics,” the individual said.

If NBC does decide to replace Curry on “Today,” concerns about waning ratings could be at the heart of it. In April, “Good Morning America” beat “Today” in total viewership for a full week, the first time that “GMA” could claim such a victory in 16 years.

And then we also had this snippiness from The Gawker waaaay back in March:

The subtext of that “rocky” transition, according to sources, is that Matt Lauer just “absolutely hates her” as a co-host and is fed up with watching Curry turn what was once NBC’s most charismatic and engaging program into a joyless slog.

“Everybody knows she’s gone,” said one source. “Everybody knows she’s gone,” said another. “Everybody knows she’s gone,” said another.

But, if Curry can keep her damaged ego in check, there is also talk of repositioning her at NBC News as some sort of special foreign corespondent so she can get back to doing the more serious journalism she covets—and to keep her far, far away from most of the people she’s annoyed during her Today Show stint.

So. Who’s going to replace Ann Curry and where in the world will NBC hide her?

Lindsay Lohan Opens Up to Matt Lauer on The Today Show – ‘It’s Time to Grow Up’

Photo/Video via NBC

Lindsay Lohan sat down with The Today Show’s Matt Lauer to discuss her so-called “comeback” at age 25 during a pre-taped interview in NYC.  Lindsay is also in town for this weekend’s hosting duties on Saturday Night Live.

I’m no different than any other blogger who has made fun of Lindsay in one way or another over the past several years. ( I’d like to think I’m not as mean-spirited, though, when it comes to Lindsay’s personal problems.  She doesn’t deserve it the way someone like Paltrow does.)  I’m a mom and I feel badly for Lindsay’s situation and the many bad choices she has made.

Listening and watching this interview, it’s clear that Lindsay has the “addict-speak” down pat.  You know, changing her circle of friends, being thankful for where she is today because of her past missteps and her desire to move forward in a positive direction. None of that will occur overnight.  Trust needs to be built; and yes, actions do speak louder than words.  I can’t help but paraphrase Chris Rock’s bit about individuals’ desire to be patted on the back for the basic responsibilities they are supposed to be doing in daily life: being on time, working hard, NOT going to jail, taking care of themselves physically and emotionally. (Feel free to watch the 19 second of that link to really understand my tone with Lindsay.  Chris really says it best.)

For the love of  God, Lindsay, stop posing for photoshoots in your underwear with that slimy Terry Richardson at the Chateau Marmont.  Put those ciggies out.  You sound like a 45-year old truck stop waitress.  And please, no more injections into that face of yours!  The puffy, bloated look had better only be from Restalyne, by the way, and not from more substance abuse (read: coke and alcohol bloat).  Work hard on your projects.  You got your wish TWICE–with the SNL gig and the leading role in the Elizabeth Taylor biopic.  Don’t eff it up.

I’m actually hoping for the best with Lindsay, but who knows what the future holds?  Lindsay is the only one who can control her life.  We are just on the sidelines, hoping for the best outcome, arent’ we?

Go get ’em, Lindsay. I’m rooting for you.

Michael Douglas has “beaten his cancer”…

Michael Douglas and Matt Lauer

In an interview with The Today Show this morning, actor Michael Douglas told Matt Lauer that he was cancer-free. “I’ve got [cancer] beat,” he said in his first interview since undergoing treatment for throat cancer. Douglas’ last interview was with David Letterman last year when he was promoting “Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps.” This was around the time he announced he was battling cancer.

I feel good, relieved,” Douglas told Lauer. “The tumor is gone. But, you know, I have to check out on a monthly basis now to maintain.” As he recovers from radiation and chemotherapy, he says he stills has months to go of getting checked out, but that the last six months have been “a wild ride.” As he recovers, the actor says his appetite is back and he’s slowly gaining the weight he lost during his illness. “I lost about 32 lbs.,” he says. “And I’ve put about 12 back. But, I mean, I got another 20, 25 to go.

Douglas’ next project will be a biopic about Liberace co-starring Matt Damon. “So you’ve allowed yourself to look that far down the road?” asked Lauer. “Yeah, oh, absolutely,” said Douglas. “I think the odds are with the tumor gone and what I know about this particular type of cancer that I’ve got it beat.

Glad that Michael feels healthy enough to return to work and hope continues to be cancer-free.
