Lena Dunham, Creator of HBO’s ‘Girls’ Signs $3.5 Million Book Deal

THIS Girl got a book deal!

Bids for Lena Dunham’s first book, a collection of essays entitled ‘Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She’s Learned,‘ soared past the $3.5 million mark this weekend before Dunham settled on Random House Publishing Group.

As a bitter aspiring writer, as well as a huge fan of Dunham and her HBO series, ‘Girls‘, I just have to say that while this does seem like a completely asinine amount of money for a collection of essays offering “frank and funny advice on everything from sex to eating to traveling to work,” I will still admit that I’m probably going to buy the damn thing, devour it in one sitting, and end up laughing my ass off.

While their has been a lot of controversy surrounding Dunham’s series due to the blunt story lines and a lack of diversity in the characters, most reports still seem to agree that the 26-year-old shines as it’s writer, director, and breakout star. The project even earned her four Emmy nominations, so I suppose it was only a matter of time before it was prime to cash in.

It looks as if Lena Dunham is living the life that her ‘Girls‘ character, Hannah Horvath, has only dreamed of living.  No doubt NYC thrift stores are drooling at the amount of cash this $3.5M will ultimately end up feeding into their pockets.

Hipster jokes and jealously aside, I would like to send my personal heartfelt congrats to Lena. I have nothing but respect and admiration for your talent and work. Now, if you need a little help reworking that title…
