Reports surfaced Saturday morning of a murder-suicide involving a Kansas City Chiefs player. Just after noon, it was confirmed that the player in question was Jovan Belcher.
Belcher, 25, a starting linebacker for the Chiefs, reportedly shot and killed his girlfriend around 8a.m. this morning, before heading to the team’s practice facility where he was confronted by GM Scott Pioli and head coach Romeo Crennel outside the facility before killing himself.
The Kansas City Police Department reported that Belcher “thanked both men before taking his life,” and that Pioli and Crennel “did not feel threatened”.
Police have not released the woman’s name, but confirmed she and Belcher had a 3-month-old child.
There is no motive for the shooting at this time. Our thoughts go out to everyone involved.
