The wait is over for the much-anticipated collaboration between Em and RiRi. One cannot help but think of Rihanna’s face after Chris Brown beat her with his fists…it’s very emotional just seeing her in this clip, considering the subject matter.
I gotta say, it’s not easy to watch, this video. Sure, we’ve seen images like this before (what haven’t we seen, really?), but this video, directed by Joseph Kahn (who has done video work for Gwen Stefani, Lady Gaga, U2, to name a few) is pretty powerful. Megan Fox (who looks a little too plumped up and surgeried for this role) and Dominic Monaghan portray a couple in an abusive and destructive relationship…volatile, drunken, jealous, love, hate, sex, teddy bears and roses–it’s sadly stereotypical of a relationship that needs to end. I’m sure we’ve all seen (or HEARD) couples behaving like this, or even worse, having lived through this horror.
What do you think?
Eminem commented on working with Megan, Dominic and Rihanna, saying,
“Trying to make this tough subject work visually is a challenge. It was great to have Rihanna, Megan and Dominic on board for this… They really brought it and made this video super-powerful.”
It should also be noted that Megan donated her earnings for her work in the video to Sojourn House, a charity organization which provides a safe space for abused women and their children to regroup, rebuild, and re-establish their self-esteem and lives.
Nicely done, Megan. Really.
