Today’s Blind Item – Vegan Actress Sneaks A Burger Once A Week Edition

This vegan who makes it very clear she is a vegan and mentions it every second that she can when she is not being a former almost A list actress who starred in an iconic role before dropping all the way down to her current B-/C+ movie or television depending on who will employ her has her assistant bring her a hamburger from Umami at least once a week and it is not a vegetarian one or even a turkey one.

Rage Against The Machine and Silversun Pickups Not Happy About The Romney Campaign Using Their Music

Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello and that one a-hole.

Mittens Romney and his new running mate Paul Ryan have been in the headlines all week, and somehow I think they might welcome these. Anything to distract us from those tax returns, right fellas! In a story published by The New York Times, it was revealed that Ryan is a big fan of the band Rage Against The Machine (collective eyeroll commences NOW). He also likes the band Filter, which I imagine he head-bangs to while doing his P90X workout.

RATM’s guitarist Tom Morello was none too pleased to hear about this and wrote a scathing op-ed for Rolling Stone saying that Ryan was “the embodiment of the machine out music rages against.” He went on to say,

I wonder what Ryan’s favorite Rage song is? Is it the one where we condemn the genocide of Native Americans? The one lambasting American imperialism? Our cover of “F*** the Police”? Or is it the one where we call on the people to seize the means of production? So many excellent choices to jam out to at Young Republican meetings!…..

Don’t mistake me, I clearly see that Ryan has a whole lotta “rage” in him: A rage against women, a rage against immigrants, a rage against workers, a rage against gays, a rage against the poor, a rage against the environment. Basically the only thing he’s not raging against is the privileged elite he’s groveling in front of for campaign contributions.”

The Silversun Pickups raged against the Romney/Ryan ticket too, sending a cease-and-desist letter to the campaign asking them to stop using their song “Panic Switch” at events. “We don’t like people going behind our backs, using our music without asking, and we don’t like the Romney campaign,” frontman Brian Aubert wrote. “We’re nice, approachable people. We won’t bite. Unless you’re Mitt Romney! The lyrics to the song ironically describe Romney’s whole campaIGN, Aubert pointed out.

“When you see yourself in a crowded room/Do your fingers itch, are you pistol-whipped?/Will you step in line or release the glitch?/Can you fall asleep with a panic switch?

Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul sent the Huffington Post the following statement:

The song was inadvertently played during event set-up before Gov. Romney arrived at the location. As anyone who attends Gov. Romney’s events knows, this is not a song we would have played intentionally. That said, it was covered under the campaign’s regular blanket license, but we will not play it again.”

Inadvertently played? Do they just hook up an iPod to a radio and hit shuffle? Ugh, these people. This isn’t the first time that musicians have asked or demanded that candidates stop using their music. Tom Petty asked Michele Bachmann to stop using his hit “American Girl” when she was still bothering us earlier this year, and the Foo Fighters wanted John McCain to stop using “My Hero” during his 2008 run.

It’s not always Republicans that get targeted, Sam Moore of Sam & Dave asked then candidate Obama to not use their song “Hold OnI’m Comin” during campaign rallies in 2008. I can’t fault Paul Ryan for having surprisingly good taste in music, but he might be keeping his playlist to himself from now on.
