You’ll be getting twice the Alfred Hitchcock fix this year. HBO has it’s movie ‘The Girl‘ premiering later this month, and now we have a look at ‘Hitchcock,’ another biopic starring Anthony Hopkins as the auteur.
Hopkins bares an uncanny resemblance to Hitchcock with the help of some well done prosthetics. The movie also stars Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh, the star of ‘Psycho‘ and she seems to do the infamous shower scene justice. Toni Collette plays Hitchcock’s assistant and the always amazing Helen Mirren plays his wife, Alma Reville.
Both movies explore his relationships with his leading ladies, some of whom he was obsessed with, and points to the director being something of a sexual deviant. ‘Hitchcock‘ has the bigger cast and is already getting Oscar buzz, but I can’t wait to see and compare both.
Just in time for Halloween, HBO brings us The Girl starring Sienna Miller and Toby Jones.
Miller plays Tippi Hedren (today appears to be my Hitchcock blonde day) and the movie depicts her plight at the hands of Alfred Hitchcock, who directed her in The Birds and Marnie. According to this version of events, Hedren was harassed and essentially black listed after she failed to acquiesce to an affair with the Psycho filmmaker.
I will be tuning in because as a child I was absolutely horrified by the story of Hitchcock sending Tippi’s daughter, then 8-year old Melanie Griffith, a doll of her mother. Inside a COFFIN. Let’s hope in 50 years Rooney Mara doesn’t have her own docudrama.
Anyway, its been awhile since I’ve seen Sienna Miller who has been flying pretty low since giving birth three months ago. She was photographed earlier today in NYC’s Central Park with her bundle of joy. Coincidence or publicity still? Only management knows for sure.
Hitchcock will also be the subject of a theatrical release starring Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren. This one explores the relationship between the director and his wife, particularly during the making of Psycho.
The Girl will premiere on HBO on October 20, 2012.
Hitchcock is scheduled for release on November 23, 2012.
