New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter appeared in his last All-Star game on Tuesday night, receiving a standing ovation from the crowd. He played his first All-Star game back in 1998 when he was only 24, from there he became one of the most revered, and highest paid, athletes in sports. He will end his professional baseball career this year with 20 seasons under his belt, and though he hasn’t played his last game as a Yankee yet, the tributes are already pouring in.
Nike and the Jordan brand put together a moving video featuring everyone, including himself, tipping their hat to Jeter, his signature. Mr. Met even makes an appearance to pay “RE2PECT” and say farewell. No matter how you feel about baseball, Jeter, or the Yankees, you can’t deny his impact and the legacy he’ll be leaving behind. Check out the spot, which aired on tv for the first time Tuesday night.
Unfortunately, whomever is behind CBS News‘ Twitter account mixed up Derek’s name with that of the late actor Michael Jeter. And this being the internet, people were quick with the memes. The actor appeared in such movies as ‘The Green Mile‘ and ‘Jurassic Park 3.’ The tweet was quickly deleted, but again, this is the internet!
