The Metropolitan Museum of Art kicked off the start of this year’s Costume Institute exhibit with it’s annual gala on Monday night. The theme was ‘Punk: Chaos To Coture’ but some people didn’t quite get the memo. Overall everyone looked ok, but only a few dared to try to not looks so pretty. Here are some of the better looks of the night.
Nina Dobrev in a Monique Lhuillier jumpsuit with skirt.
Always one of my favorites, Jennifer Lopez in Michael Kors. She arrived with the designer.
Uma Thurman in Zac Posen. Not really punk, but pretty.
Kerry Washington in Vera Wang.
Kirsten Dunst in a green, feathered Louis Vuitton.
Solange in Kenzo.
Although someone else didn’t like it, I appreciated how Sarah Jessica Parker did the theme right. She wore a Giles Deacon dress with a mowhawk headpiece by Philip Treacy.
Karolina Kurkova in a short Mary Katrantzou dress.
Jamie King (who is newly pregnant!) in a sleek suit from TopShop.
Another favorite, Christina Ricci in Vivienne Westwood.
Gwen Stefani, in Maison Margiela, with husband Gavin Rossdale.
AnnE Hathaway, looking much less annoying than usual in Valentino.
Also looking FAR better than usual–and understanding what the night was all about (PUNK!),was Miley Cyrus in Marc Jacobs.*
Here’s the thing, I didn’t really like Beyonce‘s Givenchy get-up, but I liked the train and how she had someone follow her around to fix it.
Madonna in Givenchy, the fashion house of the night. Also loved the wig and pink Casadei heels…while arriving dead-last and stealing Bey’s thunder.*
Did you have a favorite whom we may have missed?
