Lupita Nyong’o Covers Glamour Magazine’s December Issue – Named Woman of the Year

Academy Award winning actress, and DiC girlfriend, Lupita Nyong’o graces the December cover of Glamour magazine. She was crowned the mag’s ‘Woman Of The Year and what a year it has been for her. She of course received accolades and awards for her star turning performance as Patsy in ‘12 Years A Slave,’ and next we will see her in a galaxy far, far away the next installment of the ‘Star Wars‘ franchise.

Photographed by Tom Munro, Nyong’o sports a couple of fab looks, including the chic white top by The Row for the cover, a colorful number by Christopher Kane and a mini Miu Miu dress. After becoming a red carpet favorite during awards season, a lot of attention was paid to her sartorial choices and the term The Lupita Effect was coined, but she takes things like that all in stride.

I giggle. I just heard it for the first time. I’ve heard people talk about images in popular culture changing, and that makes me feel great, because it means that the little girl I was, once upon a time, has an image to instill in her that she is beautiful, that she is worthy—that she can… Until I saw people who looked like me, doing the things I wanted to, I wasn’t so sure it was a possibility.”

With a commitment to changing beauty standards, Lupita has become a role model and she cites women like Oprah Winfrey for helping her to believe that she could be an actress.

Oprah played a big role in my understanding of what it meant to be female and to really step into your own power. I wouldn’t even call her a role model; she was literally a reference point. You have the dictionary, you have the Bible, you have Oprah.

You can see more of Lupita, and read the rest of her interview when the issue hits newsstands November 11.

First Look At Lupita N’yongo As New Face of Lancome Is Sheer Perfection

You know what I love about Lupita’s ad for Lancôme the most? It LOOKS like her. She’s a natural beauty and the French beauty company finally saw fit to leave the Photoshop at the door this time. Take a good look. Lupita’s pores are actually visible and she is every bit as lovely and radiant as she is on the red carpet or even in paparazzi shots at LAX.

Seriously? Who looks THIS flawless at the airport?

The first African woman to front the French brand, Lupita and Lancôme are both hyped about the partnership.

“I am truly honoured to join the Maison Lancôme, a brand with such a prestigious history and that I have always loved,” said the actress.

“I am particularly proud to represent its unique vision for women and the idea that beauty should not be dictated, but should instead be an expression of a woman’s freedom to be herself.”

Lancôme boss Françoise Lehmann added, “Both talented and committed, true to her African beauty, and showing a great curiosity and open-mindedness in her career choices, Lupita is by essence the Lancôme woman.

“A strikingly beautiful and intelligent woman.”

As opposed to The Original Horseface Julia Roberts whose ad was banned in the U.K. for being “overly airbrushed”.  Un.Recog.Nizable.

Brava, Lupita. Brava!

Lupita Nyong’o Lands Her First Vogue Cover

Lupita Nyong’o‘s next big project will be in a galaxy far, far away. But for now, we get to enjoy her Vogue cover. For the upcoming July issue, the Oscar winner was photographed by Mikael Jansson in the beautiful city of Marrakech wearing designs by Proenza SchoulerRodarte and Givenchy. And of course, Fashion’s It-Girl wears it all well.

The stunning 31-year old quickly became a red carpet favorite, which the help of stylist Micaela Erlanger, attending award shows and premieres in choice looks from Ralph LaurenChanel and Miu Miu. Then of course there was “Nairobi Blue” Prada gown she wore to this year’s Academy Awards that made her look like a real life Disney princess. Although she seems to effortlessly float down the red carpet, Nyong’o tells the mag that it feels like a war zone and the best advice she got to keep it together was to “Keep a granola bar in that clutch of yours!”

Even as a young girl growing up in Kenya, she has an interest in fashion. She even made her own prom dress!

It was a velvet miniskirt with a matching little top and an iridescent silver translucent fabric that flowed to the ground,” she shared with Hamish Bowles. “It was kind of ridiculous, but it was fabulous at the time.”

Could we see line from Lupita in the future? Maybe, but pretty soon we will see her starring in ads for cosmetics brand Lancôme, joining it’s other brand ambassadors, Penelope CruzKate Winslet and model Daria Werbowy

So The Year Of Lupita continues, and hopefully this won’t be the last time we see her on Vogue.
