Couples News! Aretha Gets Engaged, So Does Lebron James and Johnny Weir Gets Married

They put a ring on it!!

Well of course, everyone couldn’t get engaged on Christmas–how boring! A big crop of celebs saved their engagements for New Year’s Eve, including the One and Only Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin.

Respect. (That pre-nup.)

The 69-year-old legendary singer is marrying her longtime beau William “Willie” Wilkerson and joked to the Associated Press that she “wasn’t pregnant.” The couple is reportedly planning a Summer wedding in Miami Beach, Florida aboard a private yacht. Her wedding dress will either be designed by Donna Karan, Valentino or Vera Wang. This will be Franklin’s third marriage. Her first was to Ted White in 1961, and actor Glenn Thurman in 1978.

Cutie-Pies Johnny Weir and husband, Victor Voronov

Figure skater Johnny Weir (and M.A.C. spokesmodel)got married to his boyfriend Victor Voronov on Saturday. “I’m married! No more livin’ in sin!”  he tweeted.

While all of the “official stuff” is done, there will be a big wedding in the Summer. Voronov, a Georgetown University law graduate later tweeted that he was “Ringing in the new year with my hubby.” Congrats to the happy couple!

Daaaaaang, look at the 5-carat ring!

Also putting a ring on is basketball player LeBron James, he popped the question longtime girlfriend Savannah Brinson at a New Year’s Eve party in South Beach. The couple were surrounded by friends, including James‘ teammates Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, and the couple’s two sons, LeBron Jr., 7, and Bryce, 4. Bosh said the proposal was sweet, but it seems he didn’t get the memo about wearing red pants.

I’ll save you the obvious joke, but days before superstar Michael Jordan proposed to his girlfriend of three years Yvette Prieto. I’m sure Jordan, 48, is going to holla pre-nup at Prieto, 32, after shelling out $168 million dollars to ex-wife Juanita after their divorce in 2006. The upside is, I bet Yvette gets to avoid the crowds and gets all of the new coveted Nike Jordans for free.

LeBron James in GQ Magazine – “We hated Cleveland growing up”.

Bron Bron! GQ Magazine

He broke the heart of Ohio and then bounced down to Miami. LeBron gave an exclusive interview to GQ where he talks about his decision to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers and the backlash. In the magazine he says he can imagine playing for Cleveland again and that the fans who burned his jerseys were probably “never LeBron fans anyway.” It’s kind of annoying how he refers to himself in the third person, but I’ll let that slide. Check out his pecs…!

Love those white pants...

Some other highlights are his thoughts on Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, who you remember wrote that nasty little break up letter about him. “I don’t think he ever cared about LeBron. My mother always told me: ‘You will see the light of people when they hit adversity. You’ll get a good sense of their character.’  Me and my family have seen the character of that man.”  They both sound like butthurt teenagers.  James also explains how as a native of Ohio, he was able to cheer for the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan, “It’s not far, but it is far. And Clevelanders, because they were the bigger-city kids when we were growing up, looked down on us.… So we didn’t actually like Cleveland. We hated Cleveland growing up. There’s a lot of people in Cleveland we still hate to this day.”  (Hey, LeBron? You’re NOT HELPING the situation with comments like that, FYI.)

Savannah Brinson with The " Princes" in Harper's Bazaar

Yeah, he’s never going to be allowed back into Cleveland. Cavs fans weren’t the only ones unhappy with his move to Miami.  His longtime girlfriend, and mother to his two adorable sons, Savannah Brinson told Harper’s Bazaar that she’s not a fan of the city. “Personally, Miami was not my favorite place. Vacationing there is great: You go for three days and get some sun, and it’s time to go home. It will definitely be an adjustment, but we’ll make it. We’re not complaining. Whatever LeBron felt was comfortable, I’m with him. I just love him so much. We’re soul mates.”

I hope it does work out for Bron Bron and his family in Miami.  If not, there’s always the Knicks!
