Earlier this week, Rihanna‘s fashion sense struck again. This time at both the NYFW debut of her perfume ‘Rogue’ and UK launch of her River Island collection. What threw trend-spotters and gossip mags into a tizzy? The pure audacity of RiRi to wear lipstick in a shade too out of the ordinary to possibly be acceptable. I’m talking BLUE, bitches. Oh, the humanity! Someone fetch my fainting couch, quick! Or not, because, seriously? GET OVER IT. Not only can Rihanna pull off blue lipstick thanks to her IDGAF attitude, but the shade she chose actually compliments her skin tone. So what is everyone so upset about?!
It’s all about the mainstream, folks, and how they just can’t keep up. Even with old school makeup trends that have been around since the days of Punk or even before. If there’s one thing you can say about Rihanna, it’s that she’s a die hard makeup fan down to try anything; she’s certainly not afraid of the colorful or unusual.
Most cosmetic connoisseurs, like myself, have been there, done that, and chosen our favorites. Makeup used to be about having fun and looking cool while doing so, something I think tends to be forgotten in the age of airbrush and drastic contouring. I suggest all the naysayers (you too!) give it a go before automatically labeling blue lipstick as “crazy” or “gross”. After all, I”m pretty sure the same thing was said about dark purple lips in the recent past. Just don’t get me started on RiRi’s new “penis clutch”.
I’m usually the first one out of the gate to make a snotty remark about the Sarah, Jessica and Parker Stables, but I don’t really see anything terribly wrong with the Chinese cover of Harper’s Bazaar Spring Edition.
It also looks like we’ll get a peek inside of her fancy Tribeca Stable Loft, as well as some of SJP’s favorite choices in exclusive hoof-wear by the very talented Iris Scheiferstein.
In fact, we found a few pair of Iris’s handiwork right off the runwayracetrack…take a look, won’t you?
And your everyday shoe/hoof/bootie is everyone’s favorite, right?
Hold on to your riding hats, because you will rear UP when you see the exquisite Tribeca Stables for Sarah, Jessica and Parker.
The life of an aging Sex and the City old gray mare is pretty fabulous, isn’t it?
Gaaaaaah. FINE. Here’s the REAL magazine cover that the whole world is flipping out over due to the alien-horsification of SJP.
Frankly, we did a more authentic job, thankyouverymuch.
Jean Paul Gaultier did some of his best work in the 80s and 90s, and he revisited his best decades for his Spring 2013 collection.
Models Ajak Deng and Sessilee Lopez walked the catwalk in square hats and sharp suits, a la Grace Jones.
Another model did her best Ziggy Stardust in a one-legged jumpsuit complete with red hair and blue eye makeup. Of course there were also nods to Michael Jackson and Gaultier’s gal-pal and frequent collaborator, Madonna.
It was another fun show, full of lingerie-inspired corsets and sheer dresses perfect for a night on the town. Despite there not being a lot of every day looks, there were some easily wearable pieces like the red leather MJ jacket and sequined, denim skirt.
Another gorgeous look was the hair and make-up on the models which was clearly an homage to the lovely, Sade.
My favorite look came from model Hannelore Knuts as Annie Lennox in a peek-a-boo striped suit. Sweet dreams are made of this.
