You know what I love about Lupita’s ad for Lancôme the most? It LOOKS like her. She’s a natural beauty and the French beauty company finally saw fit to leave the Photoshop at the door this time. Take a good look. Lupita’s pores are actually visible and she is every bit as lovely and radiant as she is on the red carpet or even in paparazzi shots at LAX.
Seriously? Who looks THIS flawless at the airport?
The first African woman to front the French brand, Lupita and Lancôme are both hyped about the partnership.
“I am truly honoured to join the Maison Lancôme, a brand with such a prestigious history and that I have always loved,” said the actress.
“I am particularly proud to represent its unique vision for women and the idea that beauty should not be dictated, but should instead be an expression of a woman’s freedom to be herself.”
Lancôme boss Françoise Lehmann added, “Both talented and committed, true to her African beauty, and showing a great curiosity and open-mindedness in her career choices, Lupita is by essence the Lancôme woman.
It seems someone was listening to us fans, because 31-year-old Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o has just landed a major contract with cosmetics giant Lancôme. We won’t see the Kenyan-Mexican born beauty’s ads, or even know she will be promoting, until September, but she tells Women’s Wear Dailythat she was drawn to the brand because of what they can do for each other.
“What appealed to me about Lancôme is that they’re not dictating what beauty is. What they do supports something that already is — and that was appealing to me, too. It’s what drew me to them. Hopefully it’s a symbiotic relationship — that I benefit from being associated with them, and they benefit from being associated with me, as well. And for the consumer at large, I think Lancôme has a range of products for every woman, and I think having me will expand people’s understanding of, hopefully, what Lancôme stands for, who Lancôme is for.”
One of the things I like about Lupita is that she is very well aware of her presence in the movie industry, and knows that she can inspire young women as one of Lancôme’s celebrity ambassadors, the way that supermodel Alek Wekinspired her. During an emotional speech at Essence magazine’s ‘Women in Hollywood’ luncheon in March, Nyong’o spoke about how Wek changed the way she saw herself. Nyong’o’s deal will be huge for her, and i’m sure it’ll be huge for all of the women and girls that look up to her.
