Adele Confirmed For ‘Skyfall’ Theme Song

It was only a rumor a couple of months ago, but the folks over at Showbiz411 confirmed that Adele will be singing the theme for the upcoming James Bond movie ‘Skyfall.’ The song will most likely be called “Skyfall” and was also probably written by the soon to-be-mom.

The 8-time Grammy winner will be joining the ranks of Tina TurnerDuran DuranShirley Bassey and many others who have created memorable Bond themes. I do hope it’s better than “Another Way To Die” from ‘Quantum of Solace.’ Although I love both Alicia Keys and Jack White separately, that collaboration wasn’t as good as it should have been.  It was reported that Amy Winehouse was originally asked to sing the theme for QoS, but at the time she wasn’t healthy, and Mark Ronson had a falling out with her over the situation. (Did you remember that TODAY Amy would have been 29 years old?)

The 23rd Bond film will premiere in the UK on October 26th, and we’ll get to see it here in the States on November 9th.

So, what is your favorite Bond theme? How well do you think Adele’s will do? I’m partial toYou Only Live Twice” performed by Nancy Sinatra.

[Editor’s Note: DivaJulia’s favorite is a newer Bond theme–“You Know My Nameby Chris Cornell
from Casino Royale, Daniel Craig’s first appearance as Bond. James Bond.]

Amy Winehouse Died One Year Ago Today – BBC Tribute With Jools Holland

Oh, Amy.

A year has gone by since Amy Winehouse died.  We’ve watched as Amy was remembered during various award shows, listened to other people perform her music and thought and written about how she affected us personally, but now I suppose we should be thankful she was with us at all.

Amy Winehouse and Paul Weller

Jools Holland put together a lovely, yet visually troubling group of performances from his U.K. television show.  Paul Weller is shown performing a soulful “Heard It Through the Grapevine” with Amy, and then again during the flawless “Don’t Talk to Strangers“.  Such perfect tenderness…

Amy’s physical deterioration over the years is apparent through this string of performances, but her talent always peeked through whatever mess she was drowning in…

We miss you, girl.

VMA Performances! Lady Gaga, Adele – Britney Spears and Amy Winehouse Tributes

Britney: "Y'all who's this boy that wants tuh kiss me and all?"

There was much talk over how Lady Gaga would top herself after her last two appearances at the VMAs. She opened the show this year with a monologue, in character as Jo Calderone. It went on a bit long, but her performance of “You & I” was great. Queen‘s Brian May joined her on guitar. Look at how excited Dave Grohl was to see him take the stage!

Jo” stayed in character all night, and even shared a smoke with Adele. Jo could be seen drinking with Tony Bennet in the audience.

Adele provided one of the classier moments of the night with her performance of “Someone Like You.” Just Adele, and a piano. They could have gotten someone better than Katy Perry to introduce her though.  Ugh.

One of the things I was looking forward to was the Britney Spears tribute, and shame on me for thinking MTV would go all out. I was disappointed, it could have been so much better. No Madonna, no Janet! These are her heroes, all we got were some janky kids. Oh well, at least there was an almost kiss between Brit and Jo. I know some people thought Gaga made Britney’s tribute and Video Vanguard Award all about her, but it actually made it more interesting.

Bruno Mars, Performing "Valerie" for Amy Winehouse

The tribute to the late Amy Winehouse was much better. Her friends Russell Brand and Tony Bennett talked about working with her, and the true talent that we lost.

Tony and Amy

You can’t just be a jazz singer, either,” Bennett added. “Either you’ve got it, or you haven’t got it, and Amy had the whole gift.

Bruno Mars performed the hell out of “Valerie” and made me tear up.

Amy, you’ll be missed.
