The title up there pretty much says it all, right?
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has officially announced next year’s inductees: Nirvana, Kiss, Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates, Cat Stevens and Linda Ronstadt will all join the class of 2014. The E Street Band [Bruce Springsteen’s long-time band] will be given the Award for Musical Excellence and Beatles manager Brian Epstein and original Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham will both receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award for non-performers.
Here’s my Number 1 Question: WHO will attend on Kurt’s behalf? Courtney? The Bean? Will Courtney and Dave Grohl have a slap-fight onstage whilst Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear (if he’s included) stand quietly at the podium just…shrug? Oh, the perfect storm of awkward is afoot, you people.
You just KNOW Ol’ Girl gots sum’in to say. And it will be pure gold. I’m rubbing my hands together already in anticipation–which means my palms will be bloody and raw, since the Induction Ceremony isn’t until April 10, 2014.
I was actually blown away hearing Hall and Oates were voted into the Hall of Fame. I’m completely thrilled and cool with it…and those of y’all who choose to look down your pretentious Illiterate glasses (Thanks, Zach G.) at me, I suggest you come over and listen to my VINYL of H2O. BRILLIANCE. So, YAY for Daryl and John. Don’t tell ME you don’t love this song, because I know better. (Sidebar: When my grandson Felix was around 18 months old and we took him out to dinner, he’d sit in his high chair, arm crooked over the back and checking out who was coming into the restaurant while ignoring my husband and me. That’s when I broke into to song…”he’s sittin’ with you, but his eyes are on the doooor.” Good stuff.)
KISS? Will they show up in full make-up and costumes or barefaced and tryna be cool with “the kids”. I vote for the former. I liked KISS just fine in 8th grade. But that’s about it for me. Wait. Hold up. “Love Gun”!!! They completely deserve this honor.
Linda Ronstadt’s induction is bittersweet. One of the most beautiful voices has been silenced due to her struggle with Parkinson’s Disease.
“My health is not great right now,” she tells Rolling Stone. “It’s most likely I that I won’t be able to make it to New York in April. Travel is very difficult for me.”
We’ve also got Cat Stevens aka Yusuf Islam. It would be nice if he attended, don’t you think?
I know everyone gets all swoony about Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes”, but I love “Shock the Monkey“. Shrug. That’s just me.
The next important question I have is what song will be the big end-of-show jam sesh? Please don’t let it be something by Springsteen.
